Things to do in Vegas with minors part III – Springs Preserve
Many people think that the desert is simply sand and cacti and void of any other life, however, they couldn’t be further from the truth. There are many types of plants and animals that flourish in our climate, and at the Springs Preserve, you and your family can discover them. With museums to explore and trails to walk or ride, no one in the family will be bored.
The Springs Preserve, is part zoo, part museum, part interactive, part tour and 100% fun. You can see live animals in their habitat, or visit the Origen Museum and see displays of all our desert wildlife. Some people might be interested in the reptiles found in the lizard habitat while others might want something a bit more cuddly like the desert cottontails. With ant colonies and Gila monsters, there should be something to enthrall or amaze everyone in the entire family.
If you need a break from all things desert, you can explore the rainforest adventure. Also located in the Origen Museum, it’s a multi-sensory expedition of different rain forests from all over the world. After all of that desert atmosphere, it’s always nice to take a look at things on the wetter side of the world.
For those families that like to immerse themselves among the elements, there are bike rentals so you can make the most of the 2.2 mile trail loop. Along the way, you can stop and see historical spots and some truly spectacular views. This is an activity that kids can join in too! Always safety conscious, all bike rentals come with helmets which adults are encouraged to wear and for children is mandatory. Where else can a little exercise also be educational?
Though everyone can go and play it by ear, for those that like to plan out their day, the Springs Preserve website has a page that can really help maximize your time. With different plans from full day, to half day, to even just for a few hours, you can be sure to see as much as possible. They even have numerous toddler activities so even the families with really little ones won’t be left behind.
Most large cities may have zoos you can see, however the Springs Preserve is so much more than that. Whether it’s for the educational aspect, the environmental side, a bit of exercise, or some outdoor fun, this is a fun day for the whole family.
