Rant: A signal means i’m coming over!

We all have been in a hurry from time to time.  We all need to get to places by yesterday.  However, sometimes it makes people do stupid crazy things that end up only saving them a second or two.

The main annoyance is not letting people into their lane.  It’s not like they’re cutting in line, although the driver may act like it.  They may need to turn, or there may be construction that they are trying to avoid.

Picture it. You’re driving along in moderate to light traffic.  You need to change lanes and signal accordingly and the person in the left lane speeds up so that you can’t come over.  Are they really saving that much time?  Are they really afraid that you are going to go slowly and they’re going to be late.

There are other times where they begrudgingly let you in, and then they speed up and go back around you.  What is this insatiable need to be first?  There’s no prize at the end of the road; no tape is waiting for them to drive through, and no flowers will be thrown at them.

To all you people out there who do this, listen to something good on the radio and just relax. And to all the people who’ve had this done to you, take solace in the fact that you’re more well adjusted then the other guy.

While on the topic how about turning.

When rushing to work or to your next appointment, we all have to balance hurrying and being careful. Still, if someone is being careful, why put them in more danger because you are in a hurry? What gives you the right to hurt someone so that you can make your tee time?

I’m talking about the people who think you are too slow in making your right turn and try to go around you by making their right turn from the lane to your left. Do they even consider that you might have seen something that they couldn’t as they were behind you?

Though this doesn’t happen to me often as usually I make my turns in a safe an timely manner, but when it does, it is all I can do not to lose it.  A couple of times I have almost hit cars as they decide to go around me right when I see a clear path to make my turn.  I really hope that those two seconds made it worth it for them.

There is no excuse.  If you think I’m being too slow, give me a honk, I understand that you might think I’m daydreaming at the wheel. Do you really think that I’m not going to turn as I have my signal on and I’m in the far right lane? If someone is dying in your car, wouldn’t it be better to call 911? I don’t understand. If you are frustrated, let it out by screaming in your car, I do that all the time, and trust me, if your windows are up, it doesn’t hurt anyone.

Sometimes it is the total disregard for other people, that manifests itself in a small incident, that ruins someones entire drive. If I’m turning, wait, and if you’re late for work, it’s ok, you can blame it on me.
