Great Motorcycle Rides II (Mt. Charleston)
The summers can be quite brutal here in Las Vegas. Oftentimes when it gets over 110 degrees, who really wants to get on a bike, let alone ride for long distances. Well, Mt.Charleston not only offers beautiful scenery, but also a great respite from the heat down in the desert.
Of course getting to KyleCanyon road during the summer months could cause heatstroke, so be sure to pack plenty of water. However, as your elevation gets higher the temperature drops, the views get better, and the ride gets sweeter.
It’s wonderful to make a little day out of it. You can bring a picnic lunch to eat while you’re there. There are some barbecue pits in the picnic area, though you might have to pay to get in there, it’s not too much money. There is also a lodge where you can go and rest, have a drink and some food while you rest.
At times, it can get a bit chilly, even in summer, so even though it might seem wrong to pack something warm in your saddle bags in the middle of August, some people might be thankful that they have it.
Do make sure you have enough water for the way back down. It will get quite hot again, once you’ve descended the mountain.
